[Kevin can't help his grin as he turns on the camera. He's already dressed to leave the ship and is fidgeting with the cuffs and collar of his suit. It's definitely not anything he's used to wearing.] Hey, Stephanie! You said you didn't want to stay here and we're at a port. It's not permanent but... It'd be some time off the Barge. It'll be fun.

[Kevin's been exploring as much of the fair as he can get to. He definitely needs spending money and he doesn't want to have to keep asking Jesse for more. The obvious solution is to hang out in the carnival area a bit and play with fire and paper. Everyone should just assume he's doing some kind of a trick, not magic, right? Besides, it's fun showing off what he can do. If he can make enough money, he'll buy one of those naked paintings over in that art building. If he makes more than that... Maybe he'll stay at a hotel instead of going back to the Barge overnight.]

I guess we'll just have to go and find out then, won't we?

[ Not like she has a boyfriend anymore. Sob. ]

Yeah. I'm sure we can find something fun.

Alright, well, I got a hotel room. It's [ Insert Hotel Name Here ]. You can meet me outside, whenever you feel like going out.

Yeah, sure! I'll be right there! [He's ready to go out yesterday.]

Right now?

[ Geez, she has to get ready and stuff! ]

Yeah. You said when I was ready.

Yeah, well, let me get ready! My hair's a mess and women aren't allowed to wear pants yet. Just give me a few minutes.

Yeah, okay.

They're not?! That's stupid!

Try not to judge me if I start a revolution.

[ She runs off to change so she'll be ready by the time he gets here. She applies some lip gloss, puts her hair up in a bun, pulls on the awful dress (though it is a lovely shade of sage green). ]

That'd be cool if you did.

[ She's back on the comm a few minutes later. ]

Okay, now we can go out. Get coffee, or whatever kids did in the dark ages.

I'll be right there.

[And, sure enough, it's only a couple minutes until he's knocking on her door.] Stephanie?

[ She opens the door with a smile that isn't quite as easy as she'd like. ]

Hey.

[If he notices that she's a bit tense, he doesn't show it. He stuffs his hands into his pockets and smiles.] You look nice.

[ Her voice is wry with the irony. ]

Thanks. See anyplace that looked interesting on your way over?

There's a couple buildings in the fair that look cool. I think there's food there, too.

Sounds like fun. [ It also sounds like a lot of work, but she did agree to this. ] Let's go.

[It's not that far of a walk to the fair. He leads her toward a tower that's supposed to be from... some country or other. He forgets exactly where. But it looks cool and there's some performers around it. It's more exciting than some of the other ports.]

[ Steph hasn't quite been herself for a good while now. The tower isn't much to speak of, but the performers are enough to catch and hold her interest, and they distract her from her own thoughts long enough to earn a smile. She remembers herself for a moment in the colors and sounds. ]

I hope we're not supposed to tip them. I don't have any cash.

[He shrugs. That's not the sort of thing he'd know.] Jesse gave me some money if we have to. Or if there's something you want to buy? [No. There's nothing for sale right here but there's stands in the area. When they're done here.]

[ Her heart leaps for a moment. There was one thing she wanted to buy: a weapon. But it's too weird to jut come out and ask for a knife. She'll make it seem natural if the opportunity arises. ]

I wasn't planning on it, but I'll keep it in mind. Is Jesse your warden?

Yeah. He's pretty awesome. [There's a quiet smile as he says that. Jesse's... He's like family. Not that Kevin would ever say that.]

No kidding?

[ She just kind of assumed wardens in general sucked as a rule. ]

Huh.

No kidding. Chris and Cassel are pretty cool, too.
