[Kevin can't help his grin as he turns on the camera. He's already dressed to leave the ship and is fidgeting with the cuffs and collar of his suit. It's definitely not anything he's used to wearing.] Hey, Stephanie! You said you didn't want to stay here and we're at a port. It's not permanent but... It'd be some time off the Barge. It'll be fun.

[Kevin's been exploring as much of the fair as he can get to. He definitely needs spending money and he doesn't want to have to keep asking Jesse for more. The obvious solution is to hang out in the carnival area a bit and play with fire and paper. Everyone should just assume he's doing some kind of a trick, not magic, right? Besides, it's fun showing off what he can do. If he can make enough money, he'll buy one of those naked paintings over in that art building. If he makes more than that... Maybe he'll stay at a hotel instead of going back to the Barge overnight.]

No. We stopped in LA a few months ago and in London around Christmas. They were just fun.

[She's slipped off by herself for a little bit, with a story about being afraid of heights but having friends that aren't. If someone who belongs here asks what she's doing alone, she's got a good answer, but she doesn't want to test it, so when Lua sees a lady who looks like she means well heading for her, she looks around and turns her head towards the kid on the midway and heads right for him.]

You gonna keep showing off?

[It's as much for the stranger's benefit as hers as she shakes her head and smiles, sisterly even if they don't look too related.]

[He shrugs grinning. He hasn't noticed the stranger yet.]

Maybe. It's fun.

[He rolls a sheet of paper into a ring, lights it, and sends it spinning into the air.]

[She pretends she doesn't even see the moral guardian, even if she's putting on a show for her. A grown woman by herself, one who doesn't look rich like she advised her friends to be, is cause for questioning, but if she has a little brother there won't be any asked. The woman gives up, and Lua's eyes widen genuinely at the fire. He's got to have a way to explain it.]

Looks like you're getting popular.

Yeah, a little. [He catches the paper ring as it comes back down.] And I got some money from it.

[surrenders]

Got your eye on something? That you need the cash?

[She keeps her own eye out, looking to make sure no one's headed their way in particular. A place like this, most people have to have permission to perform, and she doesn't want to have to get him out of jail for something he isn't even doing wrong.]

Yeah. There's a picture in that one building.

[surrenders]

Figured Jesse would have given you enough, as much as we got here. [She smiles, shaking her head.] Never thought you'd have expensive tastes.

[fire_punk]

He did. [This is embarrassing. Really embarrassing.] I kinda spent it all. [It's not that he has expensive tastes. Most of the time. Not unless it's a TV. It's that he just... spends his money as fast as he gets it on food or whatever else catches his eye. And he hasn't been stealing this time.]

[The funny thing is that even though Jesse is purportedly the Art Guy on the Barge, he actually doesn't really know or even like most art. Not the museum stuff, anyway, what they call fine art, not the stuff that's supposed to be all classy and is actually to him kind of nonsensical. Like. Seriously. Who needs all those metaphors?

He's trying to fake it, though, as he and Kevin go through the building... partly so he'll seem respectable, partly because he figures it's probably good for the kid's education if he can scrape together some fact or two from what little he actually knows.

Still, he's pretty relieved when they get to the part they can both enjoy: the naked women. He glances around and tries not to grin too openly, eyes brightening with appreciation.]

I like her. [Kevin points admiringly to a painting of a blond on a couch.] She's... hot.

[yeahscience]

You think? [Another irony is that he's become notorious for dating blondes -- Claire, Cashmere, Lua -- but in his native habitat, that's not really so much his thing. Instead, he nods towards a pale, dark-haired girl.] What about her?

[He nods.] Yeah, she's hot, too, I guess. [He's not crazy about brunettes, though, Joanna aside. Too much like Yvette.]

I guess. [He takes a mimicking tone, shaking his head. He sticks his hands in his jacket pockets, starting on a slow walk around, trying to act like this is some kind of art appreciation instead of exactly what it is. He's also still trying not to grin.] Now this... this is good art.

[Kevin's trying not to laugh. Really, he is. He's just not succeeding very well.] Yeah. It's cooler than what I had back home. [He really does like this better than the centerfold pinup he had in his room. The paintings seem more... more something.]

[That gets a slightly skeptical glance; Kevin, he's pretty sure he knows what you had back home. It's not like he doesn't didn't have his own private collection, after all. He's still pretty much a teenage boy at heart.
