[Kevin can't help his grin as he turns on the camera. He's already dressed to leave the ship and is fidgeting with the cuffs and collar of his suit. It's definitely not anything he's used to wearing.] Hey, Stephanie! You said you didn't want to stay here and we're at a port. It's not permanent but... It'd be some time off the Barge. It'll be fun.

[Kevin's been exploring as much of the fair as he can get to. He definitely needs spending money and he doesn't want to have to keep asking Jesse for more. The obvious solution is to hang out in the carnival area a bit and play with fire and paper. Everyone should just assume he's doing some kind of a trick, not magic, right? Besides, it's fun showing off what he can do. If he can make enough money, he'll buy one of those naked paintings over in that art building. If he makes more than that... Maybe he'll stay at a hotel instead of going back to the Barge overnight.]

There's a couple buildings in the fair that look cool. I think there's food there, too.

Sounds like fun. [ It also sounds like a lot of work, but she did agree to this. ] Let's go.

[It's not that far of a walk to the fair. He leads her toward a tower that's supposed to be from... some country or other. He forgets exactly where. But it looks cool and there's some performers around it. It's more exciting than some of the other ports.]

[ Steph hasn't quite been herself for a good while now. The tower isn't much to speak of, but the performers are enough to catch and hold her interest, and they distract her from her own thoughts long enough to earn a smile. She remembers herself for a moment in the colors and sounds. ]

I hope we're not supposed to tip them. I don't have any cash.

[He shrugs. That's not the sort of thing he'd know.] Jesse gave me some money if we have to. Or if there's something you want to buy? [No. There's nothing for sale right here but there's stands in the area. When they're done here.]

[ Her heart leaps for a moment. There was one thing she wanted to buy: a weapon. But it's too weird to jut come out and ask for a knife. She'll make it seem natural if the opportunity arises. ]

I wasn't planning on it, but I'll keep it in mind. Is Jesse your warden?

Yeah. He's pretty awesome. [There's a quiet smile as he says that. Jesse's... He's like family. Not that Kevin would ever say that.]

No kidding?

[ She just kind of assumed wardens in general sucked as a rule. ]

Huh.

No kidding. Chris and Cassel are pretty cool, too.

Chris is okay. Even if he did kill Hit Girl's family, he lets me in the CES whenever I want.

He's not the only person here who's killed someone. [He shrugs.] And, the way I heard it, he didn't actually kill anyone. It doesn't always make someone bad.

I guess not. [ A new idea, relatively speaking. ]

[This isn't what he'd had in mind to talk about. He pulls a piece of paper out of his pocket and crumples it into a ball, lighting it with a thought. He carefully pulled the fire into the vague shape of a dragon.]

[ It's not really Steph's idea of fun either. But firebending is the last thing she expected, and she yelps her surprise. ]

Holy-! How did you do that?

[He grins, a teasing glint in his eyes.]

That'd be telling.

If I'd known I was going on a date with a magician I wouldn't have bothered to dress up. [ She smiles wryly, teasing in turn. ]

I'm not a magician. [But he's blushing.] It's just fire. I can't do anything with the weather like Mom or Dad.

[ Her grin broadens. She does love making boys blush. And he's easy. ]

My mistake. I guess it's normal for people from Crazytopia to make fire dance.

From what I hear there's not much difference.

Just because some people can do things no one knows about?

It's like Gotham, a big city. A good place to hide if you really want to. Or a bad place, depending who you're hiding from.

You mean as long as they don't have a Djinn. Nowhere's a good place, then.

[ She eyes him with a frown, trying to gauge what's appropriate to ask and what's prying. ]

What is a Djinn, exactly? [ It sounds like 'gin'... ]

You know the story about the guy with the magic lamp? They're kind of like that.
