[Kevin can't help his grin as he turns on the camera. He's already dressed to leave the ship and is fidgeting with the cuffs and collar of his suit. It's definitely not anything he's used to wearing.] Hey, Stephanie! You said you didn't want to stay here and we're at a port. It's not permanent but... It'd be some time off the Barge. It'll be fun.

[Kevin's been exploring as much of the fair as he can get to. He definitely needs spending money and he doesn't want to have to keep asking Jesse for more. The obvious solution is to hang out in the carnival area a bit and play with fire and paper. Everyone should just assume he's doing some kind of a trick, not magic, right? Besides, it's fun showing off what he can do. If he can make enough money, he'll buy one of those naked paintings over in that art building. If he makes more than that... Maybe he'll stay at a hotel instead of going back to the Barge overnight.]

[He shrugs grinning. He hasn't noticed the stranger yet.]

Maybe. It's fun.

[He rolls a sheet of paper into a ring, lights it, and sends it spinning into the air.]

[She pretends she doesn't even see the moral guardian, even if she's putting on a show for her. A grown woman by herself, one who doesn't look rich like she advised her friends to be, is cause for questioning, but if she has a little brother there won't be any asked. The woman gives up, and Lua's eyes widen genuinely at the fire. He's got to have a way to explain it.]

Looks like you're getting popular.

[fire_punk]

Yeah, a little. [He catches the paper ring as it comes back down.] And I got some money from it.

[surrenders]

Got your eye on something? That you need the cash?

[She keeps her own eye out, looking to make sure no one's headed their way in particular. A place like this, most people have to have permission to perform, and she doesn't want to have to get him out of jail for something he isn't even doing wrong.]

[fire_punk]

Yeah. There's a picture in that one building.

[surrenders]

Figured Jesse would have given you enough, as much as we got here. [She smiles, shaking her head.] Never thought you'd have expensive tastes.

[fire_punk]

He did. [This is embarrassing. Really embarrassing.] I kinda spent it all. [It's not that he has expensive tastes. Most of the time. Not unless it's a TV. It's that he just... spends his money as fast as he gets it on food or whatever else catches his eye. And he hasn't been stealing this time.]

[surrenders]

I got enough to share. [She doesn't know what he wants yet; she knows he loves dragons, loves fire, and doesn't know where he'd find that kind of art here. This, she has to see for herself.]

[fire_punk]

Yeah? [He lets the paper burn up and collects the money he already earned.] So we can go get it before someone else does?

[surrenders]

[She shoos a little boy away from them, a last hopeful audience member, and gives him an expectant look like she's ready for him to lead her.]

They're trying to keep this place clean. Some people might think you're in their spot, and... they might not be too nice about it. You know?

[fire_punk]

Oh. [His eyes widen. He hadn't even thought about that.] Oops.

[He walks back toward the fine art building.] People have their own spots for... that?

[surrenders]

Sometimes. Or they get permission. Anywhere somebody can make money, they get... possessive, that's the word, right?

[fire_punk]

That's dumb. They can still make they're money, too.

[surrenders]

[Her only response is a thoughtful shake of her head. She never was on the streets, but she's been around them long enough to get a sense of the hustle, of territory, and while she's glad Kevin has never had to understand, he could easily get himself into trouble.]

So I'd have never thought you liked this kind of stuff. Real art.

[fire_punk]

[He points to a painting of a naked redhead.]

I like that one. She's... nice. [The look on his face says it's not just about her body, even though she is definitely hot.]

[surrenders]

[By this time, he's led her back into a part of the hall that looks respectable enough for the kinds of pictures on the wall, even if she's still feeling looks. At the sight of the girls, she looks askance at Kevin briefly, a tension in her cheeks the only sign she's trying to hold back words that are going to give them both away.

When she looks at who he's pointing out, she relaxes, another reassuring glance in Kevin's direction. She doesn't know the painter, doesn't know the girl, but it's like he wanted to worship her by showing her like this to the world. It's much more than she expected out of him, but everyone here surprises her sometimes. Maybe it's Jesse calming him down, teaching him how to better think about girls. Maybe he's growing up.]

Who did that?

[It's not about growing up for Kevin. It's about seeing a girl, a woman who's not fake, not trying to take something from anyone.

He shakes his head.]. I don't know.
